CFTC SEEKS COMMENT ON ITS LONG-TERM STRATEGIC PLAN

Washington--The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (Commission) announced today that it has published in the Federal Register a draft copy of its Strategic Plan -- "Vision and Strategies for the Future: Facing the Challenges of 1997-2002." The Commission is seeking public comments on the draft plan and requests that comments be filed within thirty days. A copy of this plan was submitted to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) on August 15, 1997, as required by the Government Performance and Results Act.

Chairperson Born stated that the draft plan represents the Commission's "initial description of its strategic vision". The Commission anticipates revising its plan after having considered comments it may receive from OMB, staff of Congressional committees, entities regulated by the CFTC, and members of the public which rely on the pricing and hedging functions provided by the markets under CFTC oversight.

Comments should be sent to Jean A Webb, Secretary of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, 1155 21st Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20581. In addition, comments may be sent by facsimile transmission to (202) 418-5221, or by electronic mail to [email protected]. Reference should be made to "Strategic Plan."
