CFTC and Canadian Authority Sign Counterpart to Memorandum of Understanding to Enhance Supervision of Cross-Border Regulated Entities

Washington, DC — The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced today that CFTC Chairman Timothy Massad signed a Counterpart to a 2014 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with John O’Brien, Superintendent of Securities for Newfoundland and Labrador (SNL), and Patricia Hearn, Deputy Minister for Intergovernmental Affairs. The MOU relates to cooperation and the exchange of information in the supervision and oversight of regulated entities that operate on a cross-border basis in the United States and in Canada.

The CFTC and SNL expressed their willingness to cooperate pursuant to the MOU, originally executed on March 25, 2014, in the interest of fulfilling their respective regulatory mandates. The scope of the MOU includes markets and organized trading platforms, central counterparties, trade repositories, and intermediaries, dealers, and other market participants.
