CFTC to Host Meeting of International Futures Industry Regulators

Boca Raton, Florida – More than 40 futures industry regulators from around the world will assemble today at an International Regulators Meeting hosted annually by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Participants include regulators from Canada, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, and the United States.

The theme for this year’s meeting is “Regulatory Challenges of a Changing Marketplace.”

Panelists from the futures industry and regulators will address issues such as market trends and evolving market structures, the implications of direct electronic access for risk management, the potential risks posed by changing clearing structures, and the increasing participation of hedge funds and other professionally managed funds in the markets.

In commenting on the meeting, CFTC Chairman Reuben Jeffery III, said:

“Once again, the CFTC is extremely pleased to sponsor this forum for futures regulators from around the world to address issues of mutual interest. As the globalization of the industry continues and as markets change at a rapid pace, it is increasingly important for regulators to identify issues of common concern and to share ideas about different approaches to address such issues.”
