Visiting Academic Fellow – 2008
The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) in Washington, DC is seeking candidates for a Visiting Academic Fellow position in the Office of the Chief Economist (OCE) for the 2008 academic school year.
Interested parties will have an opportunity to meet with OCE staff at this year’s American Finance Association meetings.
Mission:
As an independent agency which reports directly to the President, the mission of the CFTC is to protect market users and the public from fraud, manipulation, and abusive practices related to the trading of commodity and financial futures and options, and to foster open, competitive, and financially sound futures and option markets. Job Description:
A Visiting Academic Fellow participates in research and analyses as a member of the Office of the Chief Economist (OCE) with a focus on economic aspects of enforcement and regulatory actions undertaken by the CFTC. Candidates should have expertise in at least one of the following areas: market microstructure, industrial organization, valuation of complex contingent claims and derivative securities, investment management (commodity index trading, commodity funds and hedge funds), financial intermediaries, financial accounting, or litigation support.
Job Qualifications:
The Visiting Academic Fellow must have a Ph.D. in Finance, Accounting or Economics and have a permanent position at a U.S. college or university. The candidate selected for this position will serve in a one year appointment which may be extended for an additional year at the discretion of the CFTC. The Visiting Academic Fellow is compensated pursuant to the provisions of the Intergovernmental Personnel Act (IAP) mobility program. Salary and benefits are commensurate with the candidate’s experience and are negotiable. These positions are open to U.S. citizens and to others who meet the immigration law requirements and conditions of the appropriations act ban.
